FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield police charged a New Haven man late last month after they said a vehicle reportedly connected to a larceny failed to stop for officers and later became disabled in Bridgeport.
Jaime Delarosa, 28, was charged Sept. 28 with engaging police in pursuit, reckless driving and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, according to police.
The incident began at about 9:20 p.m., when Fairfield police received information from Westport police about a vehicle reportedly involved in a larceny. Fairfield officers located the vehicle near Black Rock Turnpike and Congress Street and attempted a traffic stop, police said.
The driver, later identified as Delarosa, failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed, crossing double yellow lines and passing other vehicles, according to police. Fairfield officers did not pursue the vehicle, in accordance with Connecticut state law.
The vehicle continued through Fairfield and later passed a Fairfield officer who deployed a tire-deflation device, police said.
Officers later encountered the vehicle again, but the driver failed to stop and entered Interstate 95, according to police. A short time later, the vehicle was found disabled on an I-95 entrance ramp in Bridgeport.
Delarosa and a passenger were taken into custody without further incident, police said. Fairfield police issued a misdemeanor summons to Delarosa, who is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Oct. 13.
Both Delarosa and the passenger were subsequently turned over to Westport police.
