FAIRFIELD, CT — A 42-year-old Fairfield woman was arrested last week by Fairfield police in connection with the alleged theft of $255,000 from an unnamed local house of worship, according to authorities.
Diane Devlin turned herself in at Fairfield Police Headquarters on Oct. 13 and was charged with first-degree larceny, a felony. She was released after posting bond on bail of $25,000, and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Wednesday.
"The arrest followed an investigation that began in June 2025 into the misappropriation of funds from a Fairfield-based organization, where Devlin had worked as a financial administrator," Fairfield Police Sgt. Jenna Wellington told Patch, declining to name the house of worship.
Officials from the organization "discovered irregularities in its financial accounts, and a subsequent review of financial records revealed numerous unauthorized transactions dating back to 2021."
Wellington said the unauthorized transactions allegedly included "payments made from the organization's accounts toward Devlin's personal credit card and other personal expenses."
Over the course of four years, about $255,000 was stolen, Fairfield police investigators determined.
Whether some or all of the funds have been recovered has not been disclosed.
