FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield is set to purchase a Quincy Street home for $305,000 to redevelop into affordable housing.
The three-bedroom, one-bathroom home at 377 Quincy St. was built in 1957 and measures 1,196 square feet.
On Monday, the Representative Town Meeting unanimously approved the proposal, and the town's Housing Trust Fund would pay for the acquisition.
It is part of a former U.S. Navy housing site that was known as Parkview Commons. The town acquired the commons, which held 28 ranch-style homes, in 2004, and sold 22 of the homes in 2006, according to Community & Economic Development Director Mark Barnhart.
As the homes return to the market, the town has a limited right of first refusal to reacquire them, and has bought several in recent years. 377 Quincy St. is the latest to be repurchased.
Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County is partnering with the town to redevelop this and other properties in the commons.
"The plan entails the assemblage of several parcels as the first step in a multi-phased redevelopment plan," Barnhart wrote in a message to the RTM. "The existing units, which are quite dated and energy inefficient, would be demolished, and new duplex units would be built in their place at the proper flood elevation."
The Town Plan and Zoning Commission recently approved an 8-24 request for the acquisition, with zoning plans to be submitted in the future.
