Artistic Visions Challenge Open House In Fairfield Scheduled For Next Month
The challenge is open to artists in two age categories—ages 10 to 19 and ages 20 and older—who live, work, or attend school in Fairfield.
FAIRFIELD, CT — The Fairfield Arts Commission is inviting local artists and creatives to participate in its second annual Artistic Visions Challenge, a town-wide juried art competition, and to attend a free open house on Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Fairfield Museum & History Center.
The challenge is open to artists in two age categories—ages 10 to 19 and ages 20 and older—who live, work, or attend school in Fairfield. First-place winners in each category will receive a $1,000 prize.
This year’s theme asks artists to create a work that reflects on the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary, bridging America’s past and present through interpretive approaches. In addition to addressing the theme, submissions must include a collaborative element involving participants from the opposite age group. Each entry must also incorporate the phrase “America’s 250th” and include a hidden reference to Fairfield.

Artists interested in learning more are encouraged to attend the open house and brainstorming event from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Fairfield Museum & History Center, located at 370 Beach Road. The event will provide an opportunity to ask questions, exchange ideas with artists from different disciplines, and learn about the competition requirements. Refreshments will be served. Attendance is free, though advance registration is requested.
"Artistic growth thrives in the exchange of fresh perspectives and seasoned wisdom," said Commissioner Sam Goldstein of the Fairfield Arts Commission, who conceived the Challenge. "When young and experienced artists collaborate, they create a dynamic space where creativity knows no age, and learning becomes a shared journey of innovation and discovery. Thinking critically and with
originality, empowers a person... it can help them navigate challenges, ask meaningful questions, and make better decisions."

In recognition of America’s 250th anniversary, winners of the competition will receive official recognition from the Connecticut Office of the Arts, according to the commission.
Participants must register by Feb. 11. Artists under 18 are required to have a parent or guardian serve as a project supervisor. Submissions may be created individually or in teams of up to three people within the same age group. All participants must attend one of two planned collaboration events and submit an artist statement detailing their creative process and collaborative component, along with a digital representation of their final work.
Student artists (ages 10-19) should register here, and adult artists (ages 20+) register here.
Final submissions are due by March 14, 2026.
The Fairfield Arts Commission said it encourages artists to experiment with new techniques or combine traditional art forms. Additional rules and guidelines are available online.
The commission also acknowledged ongoing support from the Connecticut Department of Community and Economic Development, Office of the Arts.
