Beach In Fairfield Reopened For Swimming: Update

FAIRFIELD, CT — The swimming area at Fairfield's Jennings Beach has been reopened as of Thursday afternoon, Aug. 20, according to the Fairfield Health Department.

"Due to resampled levels to be in acceptable range, Jennings coastal swimming is now open," officials wrote on Facebook.

Swimming at the beach was prohibited on Wednesday due to elevated levels of bacteria in the water. Elevated levels of bacteria can pose health risks, such as skin rashes, stomach illness and other ailments.

All of Fairfield's other swimming areas remained open during the period.
