Bike To Work Day Scheduled In Fairfield

Fairfield officials and advocates will host a Bike to Work Day event Thursday at Sherman Green Gazebo.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Residents are invited to attend a free National Bike to Work Day event Thursday, May 28, at the Sherman Green Gazebo in Fairfield.

The event, which is open to the public, is scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and is hosted by the Fairfield Bicycle & Pedestrian Committee and the Fairfield Safe Streets Alliance.

Organizers said the event is intended to encourage biking as a form of transportation and to promote street safety for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. The effort is tied to the town’s Safe Streets for All grant-funded survey and Safety Action Plan.

"Bike to Work Day is designed to promote healthy transportation choices and encourage more residents to be bike commuters," First Selectperson Christine Vitale said in a statement. "Rather than always relying on a vehicle to travel to a workplace or the train station, why not try biking? The initiative aligns with Complete Streets principles, which highlight the importance of safe, walkable, rideable and connected streets in our neighborhoods."

Participants who ride to the gazebo before work can receive free coffee provided by Sound Coffee and water bottles from Trek Bicycle, according to organizers.
