Bob Filipowich of Fairfield to Appear in 'Jesus Christ Superstar'
The Fairfield resident will perform the role of King Herod in the Spotlight Stage Co. production to be presented at Seymour Middle School.

Community theater performer Bob Filipowich, a Fairfield resident, has been cast in the upcoming Spotlight Stage Company production of JESUS CHRST SUPERSTAR. The talented comedic actor will play the role of King Herod.
Shannon Denihan directs and Fiona Bryson is the music director of the sung-through musical.
When Filipowich was part of the Musicals at Richter production of SPAMALOT, which Ms. Denihan also directed, I wrote this about his performance.

I was so happy to see that Bob Filipowich (DAMN YANKEES, LA CAGE) traveled to Danbury to play the wonderful role of Sir Robin. No one else could have pulled off the mugging in “Brave Sir Robin” as well as he did, and he was a consummate song and dance man for “You Won’t Succeed on Broadway,” where I would submit Mr. Filipowich certainly belongs. It was easy to see which of the guards he played in the second act and he also covered the role of the hooded Brother Maynard.
Another of the actor's performances that I reviewed was as Black Stash in Spotlight's PETER AND THE STARCATCHER.

Bob Filipowich is a villainous delight in the role of Black Stache, the pirate chief who is known for his riotous misuse of words and references that will land with contemporary audiences. Filipowich is a wonderful comedic actor and here he has a great time chewing the scenery as this character, which Christian Borle played in the original Broadway cast.
Breaking the fourth wall, Black Stache observes that the people in the audience "have paid for nannies and parking."
I also enjoyed Filipowich's work in 'Blithe Spirit' and 'La Cage Aux Folles,' both at Two Planks Theater Company.

A thrilling rock opera based on the last week of Jesus’ life, Jesus Christ Superstar has wowed audiences for over 50 years. A timeless work, the rock opera is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally known series of events but seen, unusually, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Loosely based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Superstar follows the last week of Jesus Christ’s life. The story, told entirely through song, explores the personal relationships and struggles between Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene, his disciples, his followers and the Roman Empire.
JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of The Really Useful Group.www.concordtheatricals.com
