Fairfield’s Megan Connolly wins yesterday’s Athletic Brewing Company’s Fairfield Half Marathon

Over 4,000 runners participated in this weekend’s Athletic Brewing Company’s Fairfield Road Races held at Fairfield’s Jennings Beach. Louisville Colorado’s Spencer Brown and Fairfield’s Megan Connolly won the Athletic Brewing Company’s Fairfield Half Marathon yesterday. The event will raise over $100,000 for Ben's Lighthouse, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, and a number of other worthy charities.

Brown, who went to Wilton High School, won in 1:07:58. Farmington’s Mario Vazquez followed in 1:09:38. Connolly won in 1:18:55 and finished just ahead of Middletown’s Mira Records who crossed in 1:19:15. Connolly was the first woman’s Half Marathon’s champ from Fairfield.

On Saturday, Wolcott’s Nicholas Bendtsen set a 5K course record winning in 14:17 finishing comfortably ahead of Glastonbury’s Alex Norstrom who crossed the line in 15:00. Bendtsen broke the previous course record of 14:37 held by Kyle Gronostaj. The women’s 5K was won by Newton’s Hannah Snayd in 16:32. Following closely behind was Angelia Norstrom in 16:42.

Also on Saturday, Fairfield’s Jake Rodwell won the Lil’ Stags ½ Mile Kids Run in 2:49. New Fairfield’s Danielle Scott was the first girl to finish in 3:38.

The Athletic Brewing Beer Mile followed the Kids Fun Run. Shelton’s Billy Hunt set a course record winning in 6:42.

The post-race beach party, a runner favorite, featured live music, food vendors, and an awards ceremony. The race also included a number of live bands and cheer groups along the half marathon and 5K racecourses that cheered on all the runners as they passed.

The Athletic Brewing Company Fairfield Road Race is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that supports a number of local charities each year. The Fairfield YMCA, Wakeman Boys and Girls Club, Ben’s Lighthouse, and Hole in the Wall Gang Camp are just a few of the organizations that receive thousands of dollars of annual support from the event.

The Athletic Brewing Company Fairfield Road Race is hosted by the Fairfield Fire Fighters and Fire Department.
