About the Performer
Steve Davis is widely regarded as one of today’s leading trombonists. He first gained international recognition with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, composing the title track of Blakey’s final album, One For All. Over a distinguished career, Davis has performed and recorded with jazz legends including Chick Corea, Freddie Hubbard, Jackie McLean, Benny Golson, Horace Silver, Roy Hargrove, and the acclaimed collective One For All. He has appeared on nearly 200 recordings, including 20 as a leader.
A Grammy-winning artist, Davis is featured on Chick Corea’s Antidote and composed “Optimism” for the Grammy-winning Christian McBride Big Band release Bringin’ It. His recent album, We See (Smoke Sessions), received widespread critical acclaim.
Over recent years, Davis has been collaborating and performing with his wife and vocalist, Abena Koomson Davis.

About the Performer
During his career, Chris Coogan has appeared alongside Stevie Van Zandt, Sal Salvador, Ronnie Spector, Harold Danko, Darlene Love, Donna Summer, Phoebe Snow, Maya Angelou, Richard Smallwood, and Ben E. King, among others, as well as arranging for Teo Maceo, producer for the late Miles Davis. Coogan has appeared on television’s Celebrity Jeopardy and the Arsenio Hall Show and has performed at Manhattan’s Blue Note and the Montreaux Jazz Festival. He has written and performed original gospel music for a PBS documentary about evangelist Amy Semple McPherson, and worked with Emmy-award winning composer Brian Keane. A Weston, Connecticut native, Coogan leads the Chris Coogan Quartet, a jazz ensemble whose repertoire includes straight-ahead jazz, fusion jazz and boogie-woogie, and serves as the Director of music at Saint Matthews, Norwalk, Connecticut. Accompanying Chris Coogan are John Mobilio (bass), Jim Royle (drums), Jim Clark (sax), and Rex Denton (trumpet).

Martire Family Arena

On Saturday, August 15, Homes for the Brave invites the community to join in the 12th Annual Step Up for the Brave Challenge, a fitness fundraiser to help Connecticut Veterans experiencing homelessness, hunger, and mental health challenges.
Held at the Martire Family Arena at Sacred Heart University, this 90-minute challenge allows participants to choose to take laps on the 500 stair-climb challenge throughout the arena, or tackle a 1,000-step non-competitive walking challenge. Those unable to attend the event in person may participate in a virtual walking challenge, taking place from August 10-14. 

The event will be co-hosted by WTNH Channel 8 Anchor/Reporter Alyssa Rae Taglia, AJ from WPLR’s Chaz &amp; AJ show, and WFSB Channel 3’s award-winning sportscaster Marc Robbins. The cost is just $40, and participants receive an event shirt, a light breakfast, and a chance to compete for prizes.
