Travel back in time to the fall of 1776. Independence had been declared, but patriots were still figuring out the young nation. The Continental Army just suffered a crushing defeat in Brooklyn. British forces won control of New York, occupying the city until the end of the Revolution. Additional losses in White Plains, Fort Washington, and other battles would bring General George Washington’s leadership into question. Join the Fairfield Museum’s Walt Matis to experience the difficult defeats and growing resilience of the young nation and to discover the decisions that made Connecticut and Fairfield County targets for British and loyalist forces during this tumultuous period.
