Fairfield University invites you to attend the 33rd Annual Christopher F. Mooney, S.J. Lecture in Theology, Religion and Society on Wednesday, Nov. 11, featuring Sohrab Ahmari, U.S. editor of UnHerd.
Exploring the origins of a word that is deeply embedded in our daily language, Ahmari will critique the 19th-century origins of a concept that was misused by scientism and then progressivism, while it continues to have the resonance of premodern moral intuitions that, he argues, are still of value. Thus he will explore how “normal” engages an important task, “having to do with rectitude, with fulfilling what it means to be a social animal—that we simply can’t do without. Even if we disagree ferociously about its contents.”
When: Wednesday, Nov. 11, 7–8 p.m.
Where: Aloysius P. Kelley Center, Presentation Room, Fairfield University, 1073 North Benson Road, Fairfield, CT
About the Speaker: Ahmari previously co-founded Compact magazine and held editorial positions at the New York Post and The Wall Street Journal. He is the author of Tyranny, Inc.: How Private Power Crushed American Liberty—and What To Do About It and The Unbroken Thread: Discovering the Wisdom of Tradition in an Age of Chaos. His upcoming book is The Triumph of Normal: Why Societies Return to Common Sense.
The event is free and open to the public.
For those unable to attend in person, the lecture will also be available via livestream.
