Car Dealership Damaged In Roof Fire: Fairfield Fire Department

Officials say the fire, which occurred over the weekend, could have been much worse.

FAIRFIELD, CT — The Fairfield Fire Department is investigating a fire that occurred at Maritime Motors over the weekend. The building sustained “moderate” damage to the roof in the Saturday morning fire but officials say it could have been much worse and credited the occupants with quickly calling 911. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Firefighters responded to Maritime Motors, located at 985 Post Road, at about 9:25 a.m. on the report that the roof was on fire. An AMR ambulance that was in the area reported seeing fire and smoke coming from the roof, according to officials. The first arriving fire unit reported smoke and fire coming from the roof toward the rear of the building.

Firefighters rapidly initiated an attack on the fire from both the roof and interior areas of the building. All available on-duty Fairfield Fire Department resources were required to control this fire, according to officials. Assistance was requested to the scene from the Westport Department and the fire was under control at about 10 a.m.

“Maritime Motors is extremely fortunate that this fire occurred when the building was occupied and they were able to call 911 very quickly,” Assistant Chief Schuyler Sherwood said in a press release. “Had this fire occurred at night, the outcome probably would have been much different. This is another reminder of the importance of immediately dialing 911 when you think there is a problem.”
