Officers immediately stopped a black Honda Civic being driven by Arango, who was accompanied by Whren, police said, noting Whren matched the suspect description and had bills from the register. Arango — who police said was the getaway driver — complied with law enforcement, but Whren fled the car and ran onto Interstate 95 before he was apprehended.

Whren, 59, was charged with first-degree robbery and interfering with police and held on a $100,000 bond, authorities said, adding there were additional warrants for Whren in Fairfield, Trumbull and Westport. Arango, 21, was charged with first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery and his bond was set at $50,000, according to police.
