FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield’s Circle Diner on Post Road has closed after more than 20 years in business, CT Insider reported.

The once popular diner has been closed for weeks, Mark Barnhardt, Fairfield’s director of community and economic development, told the publication. It was known for its extensive menu of American and European comfort food.

For more than a year, the diner and its property owners were embroiled in a legal case over unpaid rent, a case that a court reportedly ruled in favor of the property owners.

The property adjacent to the diner, the Circle Hotel, has been proposed for a new project, first as a boutique hotel and housing complex and then as an affordable housing development.
