Convicted Rapist From Prominent Fairfield Family Charged Again

Roger Bart Sherwood was charged Monday for violating sex offender registry conditions.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A man who was a member of "America's Von Trapp family" before being convicted of raping a woman in the 1980s was charged Monday after violating sex offender registry conditions, according to the Connecticut Post.

Roger Bart Sherwood grew up in Fairfield as the second-youngest member of a family headed by State Rep. Robert Sherwood that toured the country in the 1970s performing songs from "The Sound of Music," the Post reported. Years later, Sherwood raped a woman at gunpoint near St. Margaret's Shrine and was convicted of multiple sexual assault charges, according to the Post.

Sherwood, 55, was recently charged because he lied about where he was living, falsely telling officials he was staying in Fairfield with his sister, the Post reported. He was arrested in Bridgeport and held in lieu of a $10,000 bond, according to the Post.
