Craig Melvin, Lindsay Czarniak To Host Charity Golf Event In Fairfield
The Westport celebrities will host the annual Colorectal Cancer Alliance Bottoms Up® Invitational Golf Tournament & Concert, Sept. 15-16.
Information from the Colorectal Cancer Alliance:
FAIRFIELD, CT — The third annual Colorectal Cancer Alliance Bottoms Up® Invitational Golf Tournament & Concert will take place in Bridgeport and Fairfield, CT, on September 15- 16. Hosted by Today Show co-host Craig Melvin and his wife, sports reporter Lindsay Czarniak, the event will include a star-studded lineup to raise awareness and funds in honor of Craig’s brother Lawrence Meadows, who died from the disease at age 43. Colorectal cancer is the leading cause of cancer related deaths in men under age 50, yet it is less known and less funded than other less deadly cancers. Last year’s event raised $1.1 million to benefit the critical work of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, the nation’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to ending the disease.
The opening reception and concert will take place at 6 p.m., September 15, at Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport. The celebrity golf invitational will take place at 8 a.m., September 16, at Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield. The concert lineup is still being finalized but past participants include members of Hootie & The Blowfish, the Spin Doctors’ Chris Barron, Branford Marsalis, and Edwin McCain

Colorectal cancer, which is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths for men and women combined, is on the rise in people under age 50. It is the only cancer that is preventable, yet it’s estimated to be the deadliest cancer among 20-49 year olds by 2030, if things remain the same.
“The Alliance is grateful to Craig, Lindsay and the influential supporters who have helped make the Bottoms Up Invitational a success,” says Michael Sapienza, CEO of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance. “Money raised from the fundraiser is critical to support the Alliance’s efforts and its mission to end colorectal cancer.”
