CT Esports Showcase Set For This Weekend At Sacred Heart University In Fairfield

The collegiate tournament features teams from nine universities across the state and region.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Sacred Heart University will host the sixth annual Connecticut Esports Showcase, a collegiate tournament featuring teams from nine universities across the state and region.

The event, organized by the university’s academic esports program, will bring together more than 130 students from Albertus Magnus College, Fairfield University, Post University, Sacred Heart University, Southern Connecticut State University, Stony Brook University, the University of Connecticut, the University of Hartford and the University of New Haven.

Competition will take place over two days and include five titles: Overwatch, Fortnite, Teamfight Tactics, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Valorant. Matches will be played using a double-elimination format. Championships for Overwatch, Teamfight Tactics and Fortnite are scheduled for Saturday, while finals for Valorant and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be held Sunday.

The tournament will be held at the Toussaint Esports Lab on Sacred Heart’s Fairfield campus. An in-person spectator space will be available at Red’s Pub in the Linda McMahon Commons, where attendees can watch matches, participate in bingo-style contests and win prizes. The pub will be open to spectators from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. The event will also be streamed live on Twitch.

Organizers say the showcase provides an opportunity for collegiate programs to compete while highlighting the continued growth of esports in higher education.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
