Derby Day at Pequot Library on Saturday

Event features live race coverage, frosty mint juleps, Kentucky fare, prizes, raffle and tailgating options

Editor's note: The following is based off information supplied by Pequot Library, a privately-owned library in Fairfield's Southport neighborhood that is open to the public and that receives only 25 percent to 30 percent of its annual operating budget from the town.

Residents can help support Pequot Library by attending the library's third annual "Derby Day - 137th Run for the Roses" from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday on the 720 Pequot Ave. library's Great Lawn. The event will be held rain or shine.

The event will feature frosty mint juleps, Kentucky fare from The Shack Hometown Grill in Fairfield, live race coverage, festive attire, prizes for best hat and best tailgate and the opportunity to pick your favorite horse to win the Kentucky Derby in a raffle.
