Downed Branches, Outages Reported In Fairfield

UPDATE: As of about 9:45 p.m., the number of United Illuminating Co. customers without power had dropped to about 100, according to the company outage map.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Hundreds of people lost power Monday afternoon in Fairfield as downed branches hit wires amid rainy weather.

"We are receiving several reports of downed tree limbs resting on power lines," Fairfield police said in a Facebook post. "Please use caution when driving and going outdoors."

As of about 5:30 p.m., 473 customers of The United Illuminating Co. were without power, although the outages were not expected to last for long, according to the company's outage map. The outage was affecting customers in Easton as well.
