Driver Strikes Building In Fairfield Hit-And-Run: Police

FAIRFIELD, CT — A motorist struck a building in an overnight hit-and-run crash in Fairfield, according to police.

The incident happened just after midnight Monday at TB Trading Corp., 35 Brentwood Ave., police said. An orange Jeep fled the scene, leaving behind parts of the vehicle, according to police, who found the Jeep and arrested the driver, 44-year-old Richard Douglas Hewitt, charging him with evading responsibility and failure to drive right, and issuing a misdemeanor summons.

Hewitt was released on a $1,000 bond and is due in court Dec. 13, police said.
