Fairfield Emergency Phone, Radio Systems Working Again After Outage

The town was experiencing technical difficulties with its emergency radio and telephone communication systems Tuesday afternoon.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield encountered technical difficulties Tuesday with its emergency radio and phone systems, according to police.

The issue began about 4 p.m., and the town’s emergency telecommunicators immediately switched to a backup radio system, police said. Calls to 911 were rerouted to other answer points staffed by trained professionals. All systems were back online and fully functional by 8:30 p.m.

“The cause has been isolated to an issue with the State fiber network," police said about 6 p.m. in a prepared statement.
