St. Vincent’s Medical Center is sponsoring a free talk open to the general public entitled “A New Way into Your Heart: TAVR” as a part of their 2013 Spring Listen & Learn Lecture Series. The talk will take place on Thursday, April 18, from 5:30 – 7:00pm at Cinzano’s Restaurant, 1920 Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield. Light refreshments will be available at 5:30pm.
The lecture will feature interventional cardiologist Dr. Robert Jumper, discussing this revolutionary new cardiac procedure called TAVR, trans-aortic valve replacement. This new, non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure brings hope to cardiac patients suffering from aortic stenosis, who are not candidates for traditional open heart surgery.

The TAVR program at St. Vincent’s is the first in Fairfield County. The revolutionary procedure is performed in St. Vincent’s state-of-the-art Hybrid Operating Room, which features advanced imaging equipment, and provides the capability of combining less invasive cardiac catheterization procedures with open heart techniques. Dr. Jumper will explain that TAVR, or transcatheter aortic valve replacement, is uniquely suited to help the elderly because it uses the hardening, or calcified, spots common in older heart valves to hold the new valve in place. A question and answer session will follow the talk.
