Beyond the Garden tour, a fundraiser to increase awareness for the need for literacy education and raise funds for Mercy Learning Center of Bridgeport, will take place on Sunday, May 29th, from 10 am to 5 pm in Westport. Five gracious homeowners will open their private gardens, promising something more than just gardening. One of the gardens on the tour belonged to Martha Stewart who filmed her television show on the grounds, while another is home to gardening expert and author Mar Jennings. The tour will feature two guest speakers (Sydney Eddison and Steve Silk), a TV segment taping in Mar Jennings’ garden, notable chef and author John Barricelli of SoNo Baking Company and Café, a peak at beekeeping, and floral arrangement demonstrations, plus the opportunity to bring home plants and herbs from some of the gardens. Tickets are $40 in advance ($55 day of event), and a $10 brown bag lunch is available for those who pre-order. Tickets may be purchased at Flourishes (Trumbull), Magnolia (Brick Walk, Fairfield), Millie Rae’s (Westport), New Canaan Wine Shop (New Canaan), Pane e Panini (South Norwalk), Pickets (Greenfield Hill, Fairfield), and Mercy Learning Center (Bridgeport) at 203-334-6699 or www.mercylearningcenter.org/BeyondTheGarden.pdf. The event will take place rain or shine.
