Fairfield 10-Year-Old Girls Softball All-Stars Roll In Regional Opener
The teams routs Essex, Vermont, 15-0, for first regional win in Fairfield history
The Fairfield American 10-year-old girls softball All-Stars opened play in the Eastern Regionals with a 15-0 victory over Essex, Vermont on Sunday in Fleetsville, Pennsylvania.
Romero and Maddie Russell combined on a one-hitter through four innings with nine strikeouts. Only three balls were put in play by Essex and nothing out of the infield.
The game was stopped after the fourth inning because of the mercy rule, giving Fairfield its first win in regional play.

By only pitching two innings each, Romero and Russell can be used on Monday, when Fairfield takes on Rhode Island. According to coach Dave McCartney, the goal was to win the opener while not pitching anyone more than two innings.
Fairfield is expecting tougher competition against Rhode Island and Maine on Tuesday.

With a patient approach at the plate, Fairfield took advantage of eight walks and a few errors while pounding out 12 hits. Anna Rasmussen, Kayla Bivens and Russell all had monster doubles to the deep outfield for the Connecticut state
champions.
Fairfield scored two runs in the first, nine in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth before the game was halted.
