Fairfield Actor & Playwright Publishes 1st Essay Collection
The author shares humorous stories on family, aging and entertainment career in newly released memoir-style book.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield resident Dan Remmes has published his first book, Grumpy Old Dan: Reflections from the Edge of Fame, Fatherhood and Frustration, a collection of personal and humorous essays about show business, family life, aging and everyday experiences.
The book was published July 14. According to the publisher, it debuted as Amazon's No. 1 new release and became a bestseller in three categories during its first full week. The publisher also said the book received a five-star review from the Manhattan Book Review.
The collection includes essays written over several decades that draw on Remmes' experiences in show business, marriage, parenthood, city life and aging. The stories include accounts of celebrity encounters, an unexpected audience with the pope and everyday situations that become comedic experiences.

Actor and comedian Rob Corddry, known for The Daily Show and Hot Tub Time Machine, described the book as "hilarious, thoughtful and often philosophical."

Remmes has lived in Fairfield since 2016. He is the writer of Grumpy Old Men: The Musical, based on the 1993 film. According to the publisher, his theatrical work has been developed and produced throughout North America and Europe, and he has appeared as an actor in theater productions and on television, including the Law & Order franchise.
"I've always written essays about random absurdities and daily frustrations," Remmes said. "I'm surprised and delighted to see how many people relate and laugh along with me."
According to the publisher, Fairfield readers may recognize elements of the town in several essays, even when locations are not explicitly identified.
Grumpy Old Dan: Reflections from the Edge of Fame, Fatherhood and Frustration is available in hardcover, paperback and e-book formats. An audiobook edition is planned.
