Fairfield American- Auburn Game Postponed Due To Rain

The elimination contest in the LLWS now will be played Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Fairfield American will have to wait another day before getting a chance to rebound from its first loss in the Little League World Series.

After waiting 40 minutes, Little League officials decided to postpone Monday might's elimination game between Fairfield American and Auburn, Washington in Williamsport due to rain.

The contest  now will be played Tuesday at 8 p.m. and will air live on ESPN2. The winner will advance to the pool B final against Pearland, but would need to beat the Texans twice to reach Saturday's semifinals.

Tuesday's forcast in Williamsport looks considerably more favorable with a high of 72 degrees and only a 30 percent chance of showers.

The decision to postpone the game was made at 8:40 p.m. Earlier, officials had announced a 9:10 p.m. starting time after the intermittent afternoon showers stopped briefly. But the skies opened again around 8:30 p.m. and officials  determined it was too late to wait out another delay.

Fairfield American dropped into the losers' bracket in the double-elimination tournament with a 14-1 loss to Pearland, Texas on Sunday night. Auburn stayed alive with a 5-2 victory over Plymouth, Minnesota on Saturday after falling to Fairfield American, 3-1, in the first round on Friday.

Monday's postponement actually could work into Fairfield American's advantage because if the team wins Tuesday, manager Chris Daley would have ace Nick Nardone available to start on Wednesday.

Little League rules dictate that a pitcher must have four days between appearances on the mound if he reaches the  single-game pitch limit of 85, which Nardone did on Friday, when he tossed 5 2/3 innings.

As far as Tuesday's game is concerned, Daley has two options on the mound. He could go with Jack Quinn, who was scheduled to start Monday, or come back with Sunday's starter Eddie Magi.

Magi was lifted after throwing 35 pitches Sunday, meaning that he only needed one day off before his next appearance, making him eligible to pitch on Tuesday.

Magi gave up four runs and five hits in only 1 1/3 innings against Pearland.
