Fairfield American Clinches Berth In Section One Finals

Beats North Stamford, 5-1, to remain undefeated during the summer

The Fairfield American Little League team remained undefeated this summer with a 5-1 victory over North Stamford on Monday night in the section one tournament at Shelton's Nike Field.

Fairfield American, which improved to 12-0 overall, completed pool play at 4-0 and will play in the sectional finals on Wednesday against an opponent to be determined. A berth in the state championship, which is a two-out-of-three series against the section two winner, will be on the line.

Round robin play in the section one tourney will conclude on Monday with Orange (district four) taking on Shelton American (district three) and Farmington (district five) battling North Stamford (district one).

Here are the standings through Sunday: Fairfield American (4-0), Farmington (2-1), Shelton American (1-2), North  Stamford (1-2) and Orange (0-3).

At the conclusion of pool play, the top two teams in the standings clash in a single game to determine the section  champion.

Farmington recorded a critical 14-12 win over Shelton American on Sunday night and can clinch the No. 2 seed with a win over North Stamford.

On Saturday, Fairfield American defeated Farmington, 15-14, on Jack Quinn's two-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the sixth. The  blast came after Fairfield American squandered a 12-5 lead and had to twice rally from one-run deficits late in the game.
