Fairfield American Little League Falls to Rhode Island in Regional Final

Fairfield finishes postseason 16-3, Rhode Island advances to Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The Fairfield American Little League team’s postseason run came to an end Saturday night at the hands of Cumberland American of Rhode Island in a game that was nationally broadcast on ESPN.

On the strength of a five-run fourth inning, Cumberland American held on for a 10-6 victory to win the New England Regional and advance to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Fairfield finished with a 16-3 record in the postseason.

Cumberland capitalized on three Fairfield American errors that led to five unearned runs.

“Anytime you give Rhode Island a couple extra outs, it’s going to bite you,” Fairfield American coach Mike Steed told Mary Albl of the New Haven Register/GameTimeCT. “Baseball is a beautiful game but it can be equally cruel as someone’s got to walk away the loser. It was a great run, we had a great summer.”
