Fairfield American Rolls Into Finals Of District Two Tournament
Routs Monroe, 10-0, in winners' bracket final
Thursday afternoon proved to be just another typical day on the diamond for the Fairfield American 12-year-old All-Stars, as a balanced and unwavering effort vaulted the undefeated victors to a convincing 10-0 win Monroe.
With the victory, Fairfield American (7-0) advanced to the championship game of the District Two Little League tournament Saturday afternoon at noon at Bridgeport's Blackham School.
"We got tremendous pitching from start to finish, and the bats really come alive with some big hits for us," Fairfield American coach Chris Daley. "The kids really played great baseball out there."

For Monroe (5-2), it proved to be another tough day facing Fairfield American , as a previous showdown between the two ballclubs had produced a 11-0 defeat.
"They (Fairfield) have a bunch of talent from top to bottom," Monroe coach Bill Duignani. "At the same time, our kids fought hard and I'm proud of the effort we showed today."

Fairfield jumped out to an immediate 3-0 lead before proceeding to pour it in the second inning, Slugger Jack Quinn blasted a three-run homer to double the early advantage.
"That was a huge at-bat by Jack because it really opened things up and got us rolling," Daley said.
Teammate Billy McGrath promptly followed suit in the third inning, mashing a two-run moon shot to make it 8-0.
The next batter, Eddie Magi laced a double down the right-field line and followed up his two-bagger with a swift steal of third base. A sacrifice fly stretched the lead to 9-0.
Down the stretch, Patrick Calabrese was plated by a line-drive single off the bat of Tommy Ryan for a 10-0 advantage.
Fairfield American's pitching duo of Nick Nardone and Eddie Magi were virtually untouchable. Nardone rifled 35 pitches and yielded not a single hit, while Magi took over midway through the game and surrendered just three.
Once Magi took over, Nardone shifted over to shortstop and quelled a Monroe scoring opportunity with an unassisted double play in the fifth inning.
"The pitching effort was incredible today, and when they do their jobs so superbly, it gives our bats plenty of opportunities to win the game," Daley said.
