Fairfield Arts Commission To Feature Four Local Artists At Story Lab Event

FAIRFIELD, CT — The Fairfield Arts Commission will host an event featuring four local visual artists from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 13 at the Fairfield County Story Lab, 85 Mill Plain Road, Suite F.

The free event is part of the commission’s Local Walls program and will feature Gina Lisi Smith, Michele Hermsen, Tina Sommers and Amelia Panico, whose work is currently on display at the Story Lab.

Attendees will be able to view and purchase original artwork, meet the artists and participate in a discussion about their backgrounds, inspirations, techniques and creative processes.

Smith creates art using textures, layering and a range of materials.

Hermsen is an artist, photographer, educator and FAA-certified drone pilot with more than 30 years of experience. She serves as the K-12 Department Coordinator for Visual Arts for Fairfield Public Schools.

Sommers is a graphic designer, photographer and visual storyteller whose work explores natural, international and microscopic environments. Her work includes photomicrography, which uses polarized light to reveal abstract forms within crystallized compounds.

Panico is a multidisciplinary artist whose work is rooted in photography and also includes painting, drawing, bookmaking, encaustic, monoprinting, collage and fiber art. Her work examines connections among art, science, nature, observation and imagination.

Local Walls is a Fairfield Arts Commission initiative that connects local artists with Fairfield businesses and organizations, transforming everyday spaces into rotating showcases for original art. Artwork is displayed in approximately 90-day rotations and is available for
purchase directly from participating artists.

The program is designed to increase visibility for local artists, bring art into the community, and create stronger connections among artists, businesses, residents, and visitors.

The Fairfield Arts Commission is an official body of the Town of Fairfield, comprised of nine volunteers appointed by the First Selectperson. The purpose of the Fairfield Arts Commission is to stimulate, foster, facilitate and encourage the development and appreciation of artistic and cultural activities within the Town of Fairfield.
