Fairfield Board Of Finance To Discuss $2.2M Riverside Creek Tide Gate Increase

The Fairfield Board of Finance will address significant capital projects, including a $2.2 million increase for a tide gate project.

FAIRFIELD, CT — At its next regular meeting on Thursday, the Fairfield Board of Finance is slated to discuss several town financial matters, including a proposed budget increase for the Riverside Creek Tide Gate Project.

The board is considering a bond resolution to amend and restate a previous appropriation for the tide gate project, which proposes to increase the appropriation and bond authorization by $2,212,800, bringing the total for the project to $6,030,699. Additionally, the amendment would expand the project's scope.

This resolution also requires Representative Town Meeting approval and is pending Board of Selectmen approval.

In other matters, the Board will hear an update from the Dwight School Building Committee and consider a donation from the Library Board of Trustees. This donation of $135,000 is intended to fund a feasibility study for the Fairfield Woods Library, evaluating potential future upgrades to the building. The Board of Selectpersons was scheduled to discuss the matter on Wednesday, prior to the finance board meeting.

Further, the board will review and discuss the Capital Plan Overview. This includes hearing, considering, and potentially adopting a bond resolution appropriating $2,642,350 for the purchase of vehicles and equipment for the Department of Public Works. Another bond resolution for consideration involves appropriating $1,031,875 for various non-recurring capital projects. Both of these capital expenditure items require RTM approval and are pending Board of Selectmen approval.

The Internal Auditor will provide updates on several areas, including Parking Authority Revenue Collections, Maintenance & Repair for Automotive (all departments), Security of Town Information Technology Systems, and Fill Pile Restitution Payments. The Board will also address old business, such as Police Department Vehicle Insurance and Fire Department Outside Jobs Policy. Draft minutes from the Jan. 6 meeting will be considered for approval.

The Board of Finance meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Board of Education Conference Room 295 A/B, at 501 Kings Highway East, and virtually via Zoom.
