Fairfield Board Of Selectpersons To Consider Safe Streets Grants, Engineering Contracts

FAIRFIELD, CT — The Fairfield Board of Selectpersons is scheduled to consider accepting two state transportation grants for the town's "Safer Streets" program when it meets Wednesday, with additional business including an engineering contract assignment, tax refunds and updates on several town initiatives.

The meeting is set for 4 p.m. and will be held in a hybrid format, both in person in the first-floor conference room at Independence Hall, and via Zoom. Additionally, the meeting also will be streamed on FairTV's website, YouTube channel and local cable television. Click here to view the agenda.

Among the agenda's items are two resolutions authorizing the town to accept separate $5,000 grants awarded through the Connecticut Department of Transportation's Active Transportation Microgrant Program in partnership with the Connecticut Metropolitan Council of Governments.

One grant would support a public outreach and education campaign sponsored by the Fairfield Safe Streets Alliance to promote awareness and safe use of the town's evolving transportation network. The second grant would fund reflective safety items to be distributed by the Fairfield Health Department to encourage safer active transportation. Both grant acceptances require Representative Town Meeting approval and previously received approval from the Board of Finance at its July 16 special meeting.

The board also is scheduled to consider approving the assignment of the town's professional services agreements with Luchs Consulting Engineers LLC and DeCarlo & Doll, Inc. to BETA Group Inc. The proposed action would authorize First Selectperson Christine Vitale to execute the assignment and related documents.

Other business includes consideration of $18,291.82 in tax refunds recommended by the tax collector and approval of draft meeting minutes from June 23 and July 8.

During Vitale's update, the board is expected to receive information on the Unquowa Road construction project, a potential relocation of the public health nursing office, and speed safety cameras.

The agenda states that public comment will be heard on all voting items, except approval of meeting minutes. Residents also may submit written comments through the town's online contact form before or during the meeting.

The meeting will conclude with announcements before adjournment.
