Fairfield To Celebrate Little League State Champions

The town will host a celebration for the Fairfield American Little League District team's state title this week. All residents are invited.

FAIRFIELD, CT — The town will host a celebration for the Fairfield American Little League 12s District Team on Friday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Town Green in front of Old Town Hall, 611 Old Post Road, First Selectman Mike Tetreau announced. All residents are invited to attend. If there is inclement weather, the event will be held in the gym at the Bigelow Center for Senior Activities, 100 Mona Terrace.

The town will be honoring the 13 players for winning the Little League state championship on July 29. This is the third year in a row that the Fairfield American Little League 12s District Team has won this coveted title. The team’s manager, two coaches, parents and town and state officials will be in attendance at the Sept. 14 celebration where each player will receive a Certificate of Congratulations. “Our town was thrilled when Fairfield American won the state championship this summer,” Tetreau said in a press release. “We are very proud of the team and encourage residents to join us on Friday when we celebrate this major achievement.”

Fairfield American, which advanced to the Little League World Series last year, won the District 2 Championship with a 12-2 victory over Trumbull National and then took home the Section I title with a 5-2 win over Milford. Fairfield then claimed the state championship with an 11-9 win over Manchester National and advanced to the Little League Baseball New England Regional in Bristol.

After coming off a big win against Maine at the New England Regional tournament where the offense piled on seven runs and pitcher Will Meyers limited Maine to just one run, Fairfield American (1-2) suffered a loss to New Hampshire. Despite getting eight hits, Fairfield American managed to score three runs and was eliminated with a 9-3 loss.

“All 13 players played a vital role in a game at some point this summer, making this team a true, team of champions,” Manager Jeff Gouley said. “Congratulations to the boys, their families, the league, and the town of Fairfield.”
