Fairfield To Celebrate Little League State Champions

FAIRFIELD, CT — First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick is very pleased to announce that the town of Fairfield will host a celebration for the Fairfield American Little League 11 D state champions and the Fairfield Little League Girls Softball Junior state champions 4 p.m. Thursday at the Sherman Green. All residents are welcome to attend, rain or shine.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FALL 11D STATE CHAMPIONS:

Brooks Fonseca, Thomas Gardiner, William Hathaway, Patrick Jodice, Drew Kane, Trip Keyes, Hudson Kofoed, Dylan Lawlor, Max Mulhall, Michael Mulhall, Tristan Rivera, William Ryan

Manager — Matt Lawlor; Coaches — Jorge Rivera, Tom Keyes and Joe Ryan

The FALL 11D has accomplished many feats this summer. They won the District 2 Championship (6-1 in districts overall; went 3-1 in pool play; 3-0 in double elimination round), won the Section 1 Championship (beat Wilton, then Max Sinoway, then Wilton again in championship game — outscored opponents 49-8 in 3 games) and then won the CT State Championship (beat Southington North; beat Manchester; beat Southington North again in the championship game).

14-1 overall record this summer; 171 runs scored; 41 runs allowed; .373 batting average (team); team ERA 1.56; opponent batting average .237

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FAIRFIELD LITTLE LEAGUE GIRLS JUNIOR SOFTBALL STATE CHAMPIONS:

The Fairfield Little League Girls Softball Juniors All Star Team won the 2021 Connecticut Juniors State Title on July 20 in Orange, defeating Bristol Little League by a score of 8 to 5. This is the second Connecticut state title for the girls on this team and adds one more significant accomplishment to a long list:

• 2018: 10U District 2 Champions
• 2019: 11U Connecticut State Champions
• 2020: 12U District 2 Champions
• 2021: Juniors Connecticut State Champions

Coaches Ed Tournas and Randy Solow alongside Manager Matt Colangelo have coached the players over the last several years spanning local, county and statewide tournaments. Colangelo had some final thoughts on his team.

“This group of girls is really special. They worked and competed so hard since they were 8 years old, and deserve to end their Little League careers as state champions. The results are amazing, but more importantly these girls played together as a team, picked each other up when they faced adversity and always respected one another as well as the coaches, umpires and opposing teams,” he said.

As a league, the FLLGS also swept districts in all four divisions (10U, 11U, 12U and Juniors) and made the state finals for the 11U Division.

FLLGS is a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization in Fairfield. Our girls’ softball Little League program has over 350 girls playing the sport.
