FAIRFIELD, CT — The town will celebrate the long-awaited re-opening of the Penfield Pavilion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 7. The pavilion has been closed since October 2012 when it was severely damaged during Superstorm Sandy.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the rebuilt Penfield Pavilion will be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, at 323 Fairfield Beach Road. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held on Friday, March 10 at 5 p.m.
The grand re-opening of the historic landmark will mark the end of a long process that included numerous meetings and plan changes.

The final $7.4 million project came in $200,000 under budget, according to the Connecticut Post, with the town’s cost off-set by the 75-percent reimbursement from FEMA and a $1.75 million insurance settlement.
The Post reports that the first event booked at the rebuilt pavilion is an all-day meeting scheduled for March 8 and the building is booked for every Saturday between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Bookings are being accepted for two years out, according to the Post.
