Fairfield Coronavirus Update: 18 Total Confirmed Cases In Town

About a week ago, there were only five cases of the new coronavirus confirmed in town​, but it has spread rapidly across Fairfield County.

FAIRFIELD, CT — The total number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Fairfield had risen to 18 as of Friday, according to an email from the first selectwoman.

About a week ago, there were only five cases confirmed in town, but the virus has spread rapidly across Fairfield County in recent days. There were 1,291 confirmed cases in Connecticut as of Friday afternoon and, of those, 27 cases were fatal and 752 cases were in Fairfield County.

In an email to residents, First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick reminded people Friday that public recreation areas are closed and cited a News 12 report in which a Fairfield woman with the virus pleaded to residents to stay home.

“We have an obligation to do all that we can to protect the health and safety of our residents and to not overwhelm the healthcare system,” Kupchick said in the email.

In addition to parks and beaches, schools and non-essential businesses have closed their physical locations as well.
