Fairfield Family Sues Yale New Haven Hospital Over Child's Death: Report

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield residents Kate Hallissey and Mícheál Hallissey are suing Yale New Haven Hospital over the death of their 1-year-old child, who died late last year following treatment in the emergency room, CT Insider reported.

Liam Francis Hallissey reportedly died on Dec. 20, one day after treatment in the ER at Yale New Haven. He had first been treated by a local pediatrician, who determined Liam had Influenza A, among other ailments, according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit was filed in May, and can be viewed here from WTNH-TV.

The Hallisseys reportedly claim that Yale New Haven was negligent by not properly diagnosing or treating Liam, who died, in part, of complications from sepsis from the influenza.

In a statement, Yale New Haven extended their "deepest condolences" to the family, but could not comment further due to pending litigation.

The Hallisseys are represented by attorney Jennifer Amdur, a partner at Berkowitz Hanna, who said in a statement to WTNH that Liam and the family were "the victims of a system in which patients and families are too often rushed through the hospital without the safeguards they deserve."
