Fairfield Father Files Lawsuit Against Youth Football League: Report

FAIRFIELD, CT — A Fairfield father is suing the Fairfield County Football League, claiming that he was banned from coaching a youth football team, and his son was kicked off the team, after he complained that players from a New Canaan team were putting his players in danger with their actions in a game last fall, according to the Connecticut Post.

Daniel Tepfer of The Post reports that Robert O’Connell filed the lawsuit and is seeking an injunction barring the football league from retaliating against him and his son for the complaints.

O’Connell, a volunteer coach for the Fairfield Wildcats for 10 years, complained during a preseason game in 2015 that New Canaan players were punching and kicking his players after the whistle had been blown and he was later suspended for his actions during the game, according to the Post.

O’Connell claims that during a special meeting, the board showed a video that was heavily edited by the New Canaan team and created a “false and misleading” impression of his actions and what actually occurred during the game, according to the Post.
