Fairfield First Selectwoman Hosts News Conference On Proposed Charter
First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick will host a news conference Tuesday to discuss the proposed Town Charter changes on next month's ballot.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick will hold a news conference Tuesday "to discuss the newly released Explanatory Text, as well as highlight important changes to the Town Charter," she announced Monday.
Kupchick, who championed the proposed changes to the Fairfield Charter, will be joined by a host of stakeholders of the proposed revisions, including:
- Selectman Tom Flynn
- Kate Maxham, Probate Judge
- Betsy Browne, Fairfield Town Clerk
- Charter Revision Commission Chairman Bryan Cafferelli
- Charter Revision Commission Vice Chairman Chris Brogan
- Fairfield Library Board Chairman Andrew Minea
- Human Services Commission Chairwoman Laura Incerto
In addition to changes to how Fairfield is governed, the revisions also seek to modernize the Charter's language, and introduce standards of conduct for officials, among other updates. Click here to view the full proposed Town Charter.

"When we started the process I was surprised to learn that the Town's Charter hadn’t had a thorough review and meaningful update since the 1970s, under First Selectman John Sullivan," Kupchick wrote in a recent message to residents about the Explanatory Text.
Per state statute, the text was authorized by the Representative Town Meeting, written by the Town Clerk and approved by the Town Attorney, according to Kupchick.
