Fairfield Giants Go 4-1 In Weekend Play
JR MIDGETS (7-0)
FAIRFIELD 28 MILFORD 16
The Milford Eagles had outscored their opponents 202-60 going into this week’s game. They had confused opposing defenses with their scrum-like offense going into this week’s game. But this week’s game was against the Fairfield Giants and they were neither outscored nor confused and thus sit alone atop the division standings, with a perfect 7-0 record. Both teams came into the game with an unblemished record and knew they were in for a dogfight. Defense wins games and Fairfield’s was superior.

Fairfield struck first when Finn Duran scooped up a Milford fumble, stripped loose by Brandon Moutinho, and ran it into the end zone on Milford’s first possession. Brian Kiremidjian was good with the PAT and Fairfield led 8-0. Milford would counter with a score of their own but the half would end with the score knotted at 8 as Fairfield stopped a Milford drive on the one-yard line as time expired.
Milford received the kick-off to open the second half and orchestrated a 14 play, clock eating drive only to be denied by the Giants. The shift in momentum was palpable. Fairfield took over and never looked back. Big runs by Henry Houghton, Owen Sherman and Duran got the ball down to the Milford 3 yard line. The drive culminated as Moutinho blasted his way into the end zone for the go ahead score. The Eagles took over but in déjà vu’ fashion, fumbled on two consecutive possessions. Hayden Beiser recovered both fumbles and on the ensuing plays, handed off to Duran, who scored with runs of 20 and 10 yards to seal the victory for the Giants. Fairfield will face Naugatuck at home next week in their final regular season game.

The Giants Pee Wee team exchanged blows with the Milford Eagles on Sunday afternoon at Jonathan Law HS. QB Nick Morris opened the game with 45 yd run off tackle and in the for the score on just the 2nd play from scrimmage, setting the offensive tone for the day. Milford would not have any part of a Giants celebration! The methodically run Wing T offense had the Giants defense guessing and without answers for the entire first half. Milford would score 3 times, putting 20 first half points on the board. RB Tommy O’Connell scored from 5 yards out just prior to half making the score 20-16 Milford at the break.
Making defensive adjustments, Fairfield came out ready to take control of the game. In Q3, Morris hit TE John Reynolds on a 58 yd TD pass, then hitting the PAT, to take a 24-20 lead. Milford would start Q4 on their own 35 yd yard line, driving 65 yds and chewing up 7 minutes off the clock, before scoring on a power sweep taking a 26-24 lead with 3 minutes remaining. After a failed onside kick...Fairfield took over on the Eagles 45 yd line. With great blocking from Grady Golier, Declan O’Hara, Charlie Wilcox, Owen Miller, Luke Oligino, Robert D’Elia, and Anthony Bambus, the Giants offense slashed their way down to the 5 yd line with 2 mins remaining. RB Mike Innaimo powered off tackle and in for the score (PAT Morris) making the score 32 -26 with under 1 min to play. The Giants defense thwarted the Eagles offense ending the game and walking away with a hard earned victory.
