Fairfield Giants Week 4 Round-Up
JR MIDGETS (2-2) FAIRFIELD 12 NAUGATUCK 6
The Fairfield Giant JM’s beat a tough Naugatuck team 12-6 in Double overtime. It was a hard fought battle the entire game both teams refusing to bend. The Giants prevailed in overtime. There was a lot of good runs (Anthony Espinoza & Jack Esse) and throws (Andrew Loya) and receptions (Charlie Wilcox) and timely interceptions ( Kyle Stevenson) and tackles (Tyler Ciccia) but more than anything; all the QB’s and RB’s and Receivers would like to thank and congratulate the defensive and offensive line that made everything possible: Dylan Fragomeni, Ryan Durrell, Tommy O’Connell, Freddy Caposella, Declan O’Hara, Grady Bartlett, Jonah Brodtman, Trevor Knisely, Luke Martucci, Luke Oligino, Tino Rugani, Daniel Shannon and Finn Donelan.
PEE WEE (3-1) FAIRFIELD 0 HARTFORD 20
The Giants Pee Wee Team lost a hardfought battle to Division 1 powerhouse Hartford Hurricanes. The game was billed as David vs Goliath as big city D1 Hartford was riding a 3-0 (3 shutouts) record into the match-up, averaging 40 pts per game. Small town D2 Faifield had a similar record at 3-0, averaging 28 pts per game. The Giants prepared defensively all week to stop the high powered Hurricane running game...and they did just that!. Fairfield’s defense stung, stuffed and cracked the entire field of Hurricane RB’s, limiting the offense to just 50 rushing yards and zero rushing TDs all game.
With their running game shut down, Hartford turned to the spread offense and the long pass, completing 3 TD passes for 25, 30, and 50 yards. All TD’s were one on one zooms down the sidelines. The Giants defensive pass coverage played tough, keeping the short game at bay, but in the end, the long ball was the difference in the game. Fairfield offense was stymied by 2 turnovers, and numerous penalties, pinning the unit in unfavorable field positional all game. “We love playing the big city teams, as it gives both the players and coaches an opportunity to exam our teams strengths and our weaknesses. Ultimately, a game like today makes us a much stronger team”, said Asst. Coach Lee Battista.
