Fairfield Giants Southern Connecticut Pop Warner semifinal roundup.

FAIRFIELD GIANTS SEMI-FINAL ROUND UP

JR MIDGETS

FAIRFIELD 34 TRUMBULL 14

The Fairfield Jr. Midget Giants notched their ninth consecutive victory and will compete for the Southern Connecticut Pop Warner Championship for the second straight year. To get there, they had to battle not only abysmal weather conditions, but a much improved Trumbull squad. Fairfield won 35-14.
Finn Duran led the Giants with four touchdown runs, one, a backbreaking 70-yard kickoff return. Brandon Moutinho also had a big night and scored Fairfield’s final touchdown. Fairfield’s dominant defense has allowed an average of 8 points per game and was once again the difference maker. Owen Cirilli, who had been sidelined with a broken finger for several weeks, returned to the line-up and gave them added spark, making several key tackles. As they have all season, Ryan McManus, Henry Houghton, Jake Simonelli, Anthony Espinosa, Hayden Beiser, Jeff Meyers, Owen Sherman, Sam Roberto, Gage Dias and Brian Kiremidjian, played tough, solid defense. They came up with big plays in crucial spots and limited a strong Trumbull running game to just two scores.
The Giants will spend the week preparing for a rematch with division rival, Milford. The Championship game will be held on Sunday, November 9th, in West Haven.

The Fairfield Giants Pee Team advanced to the SCPW Championships for the second consecutive year beating the Spartans of Amity in a rain driven, 30 mph wind, Noreaster that roared through Saturday afternoon.
With the nasty weather being the “Great Equalizer”, the Giants defense took center stage. Amity’s spread offense passing game was severely hampered by both the rain and by Giant defenders. Pressuring the QB, along with blanketing pass coverage, the Amity offense was shutout for the first time all season. Charlie Wilcox, Freddy Capossella, Peter Strang, Grady Bartlet, and Gavin Toth.
Fighting the the wind and rain, the Giants offense slashed down field, entering the red zone twice. Both drives were stalled short of the end zone with untimely lost fumbles. The lone score of the game came early in Q2 when QB Nick Morris rolled right looking for an open receiver down-field. Reading the coverage, Morris tucked the ball and turned on the jets, rolling over Amity defenders, he sprinted 50 yards down the home sideline and in for the score. RB Mike Innaimo would add the PAT, making thescore 7-0. The score would remain the same for the next 2 quarters, ending the game with a shutout victory.
The Giants will spend the week preparing for a rematch with division rival, Newington. The Championship game will be held on Saturday, November 8th, in West Haven.
