Fairfield Giants Post Perfect Week 8

Giants go 5-0 overall and grab the No. 1 seed in two divisions heading into the playoffs.

JR MIDGETS (8-0)

FAIRFIELD 36 NAUGATUCK 8

The Fairfield Giants Junior Midgets’ quest for a perfect season was realized Sunday with their dominating performance over Naugatuck at Sullivan Field. For most of these boys, it was the last time they would play on this field.

They came out strong, scoring on their first two possessions. Finn Duran scored from 35 yards out and would score again, following Fairfield’s recovery of the ensuing on-side kick. The Giants led 16-0 midway through the first quarter with Brian Kiremidjian’s successful PAT attempts. Henry Houghton powered his way down field on successive runs and fought his way into the endzone from 5 yards out to increase the Giants lead. Nick Rothe wove his way through the Naugatuck defense to score from 15 yards out to close out the half with Fairfield up 30-8. Houghton scored again in the second half to close out the scoring. The Giants will begin preparing for their semi-final contest against Trumbull in the Southern Connecticut Pop Warner playoffs. With their eighth victory, Fairfield has participated in their eighth Ice Bucket Challenge, raising awareness and over $6,200.00 for ALS research.

FAIRFIELD 33 NAUGATUCK 13

The Fairfield Giants Pee Wee team finished the regular season with a 7-1 record, locking in the #1 seed in their division entering the SCPW playoffs.”Sunday’s win was a complete team effort”, said coach Innaimo. “The best attribute to this team, is they have fun and are constantly picking each other up...It’s really a pleasure to watch”


RB Toco O’Connell scored the first of his 3 TD’s early in Q1, giving the Giants the early lead. The Naugy Hounds would respond quickly, scoring on their first possession with a 70 yd TD pass down the sideline. Fairfield took their next possession 60 yds and capped it off with a 2 yd QB sneak by Nick Morris. ON the ensuing kickoff, Naugy returned the kick 75 yds for a TD, tieing the game at the half.


Fairfield regrouped during halftyime, and came out firing on all cylinders in the 2nd half. While the defense shut out the Hounds offense in Q3 and Q4, the Giants offense turned up the heat! With great runs by RB’s Kyle Stevenson and Mike Innaimo, precision passing by Morris, and tremendous blocking for the offensive line, Fairfield would score 3 times, putting the game out of reach for Naugy. Stevenson had a dazzling, slashing 60 yd TD run, freezing the Naugy defenders in the cleats! O’Connell rumble in for the final 2 scores, ending the game with a 33-13 victory. Game standouts where, Joe Sangiulo, Finn Donelan, Freddy Cappossella, Dylan Fragameni, Grady Bartlet, Luke Martucci, Luke Oligino, Gavin Toth, Griffin Harding, and Declan O’Hara.

JR PEE WEE (2-6)

FAIRFIELD 33 DERBY 13

The JPW Giants ended the regular season by beating the Derby Red Raiders 33-13. On the first drive Jordan Davis connected with Matthew Selca for a 40 yard touch down, Matthew’s first of 2 TD reception’s on the day. The offense never slowed, QB Thomas Kramer ran all over the Derby defense for 3 touch downs to end the first half 28-7. The second half was more of a defensive battle with strong play by Jack Petrofessa, Sean Donohue, Jack Melbourne, and Timothy Walton. Coach Paul Atala was pleased with the all around effort of the team finishing the season strong. The JPW team will play in the SCPW Bob Boss Bowl Playoffs beginning November 1st.


MITEY MITE SR (3-3)

FAIRFIELD 19 HARTFORD 0

The Mitey Mite Sr team extended its streak of not allowing a defensive touchdown to four games, winning 19-0 against the Hartford Hurricanes on the road at Trinty College. The Hurricanes found it extremely difficult to move the ball against the Giants defense led by Matthew Mitchell, Joe Macri, Luke Herring and Jack Balsano. On offense, the Giants opened the scoring with a 5 yard TD pass from Rogan Kane to Mikey Lau. Harrison Spangler followed with a 40 yard TD run with the extra point run by Cooper Anderson. Anderson completed the scoring with a 3 yard TD run.
After an 0-2 start, the Giants closed their season on strong note evening their record at 3-3 and now head into the year end Mitey Mite Bowl tournament in Hartford this coming Sunday.


MITEY MITE JR. (4-4)

FAIRFIELD GIANTS 18 NEWINGTON 6

The mmjrs finished their regular season with a BIG win against the Newington Nights 18-6. QB Jon Morris burned up the gridiron once again scoring all 3 TD’s for the Mites. “The team played great” said coach Soderstam. To end the regular season on a 2 game winning streak is such a huge high for the little guys”. The team will now advance to the 2014 Mitey Mite Bowl to be help in Newington next Saturday.The Bowl is a double elimination format, crowning one Mitey Mite champion for the 2014 season.
