Fairfield Giants Go 4-2 In 2015 Season Opener

JR MIDGETS (0-1)FAIRFIELD 12 AMITY 20
The Fairfield Giants Jr. Midget’s were involved in a classic game of smash mouth football against the Amity Spartans. The Giants were down early in the first quarter after giving up a touchdown though battled back late in the second quarter with a Tyler Ciarcia interception that halted the Spartans drive. Heading into locker room at halftime the score was 7-0 Amity. Opening the 2nd half Anthony Espinoza had a terrific kickoff return for 50 yards, placing the Giants in prime field position. Two plays later Luke Martucci opened with a 30 yard touchdown run behind outstanding lead blockers Tommy O’Connell, Ryan Durrell and Declan O’Hara. Anchoring the defense and giving Amity problems all day were linebacker Charlie Wilcox and defensive tackle Freddy Capossela. Despite tough defensive play Amity was able to punch in another touchdown in the 3rd quarter. Answering right back the Giants made a heroic offensive push and delivered with Anthony Espinoza running in a 35 yard touchdown. As time was dwindling down in the 3rd the Spartans punched in one more touchdown making the score 20-12. The Giants fought hard against Amity throughout the 4th quarter but were unable to pull ahead and fell to the Spartans 20-12.

PEE WEE (1-0) FAIRFIELD 26 AMITY 7
Fairfield GiantsPee Wee team kicked off the 2015 season with a decisive win over the Amity Spartans. QB Nick Morris scored 2 TD’s, both on short runs and FB Peter Strang added 2 TDs. The first on a 35 yd reverse, and his 2nd on 45 yd pass reception from Morris. Tyler Hibberd added the PAT kick making the final score 26-7.
The Giants stonewall defense was led by Jack Gremes, Griffin Harding, Drew Buckley, and Tim Walton, allowing the Spartans just 3 first downs all game. Additional Game standouts were Connor Gittman, Grant Panarese, Roan Chiarilli, Aaron Sepot, Max Spies, and Ben Gaffney.

JR PEE WEE1 (0-1)FAIRFIELD 6 MILFORD 36
This week the JPW1 team opened up with a 36-6 loss to the Milford Eagles. Milford struck first but the Giants responded with a solid drive and a 50 yard TD run by QB Tommy Kramer. Turnovers led to a 24-6 half time deficit. Second half Milford kept up the pressure and wore down the Giants. The Giant defense was led by Jack Melbourne, Aiden Casey, Mac Gleason and Ronny Labrasciano. Next week, Giants look to rebound vs. Newington Knights.

JR PEE WEE2 (1-0)FAIRFIELD 25 AMITY 0
Running back Patten Royal got Fairfield Jr PW2 started with ten yard touchdown run on their first drive. Cooper Anderson ran in the point after. The Giants easily handled Amity 25-0 in both teams’ season opener on Sunday. Later in the 1st quarter the Giants Sean O’Neill returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown to lift Fairfield to 13-0. The Giants line led by Anthony Falletta, Parker Pasmeg, Nicholas Sakey and Will Pechman, gave Patten Royal an open lane to the end zone and his second score of the game in the 2nd quarter making it 19-0.
Fairfield’s defense got into the backfield often. Mikey Lau had three tackles for a loss while Harrison Spangler had a sack. Timothy Bango-Jasko and Mark Wrobel each also had tackles for a loss. The secondary got interceptions from Jack Ransome and Sean O’Neill. Ryan Faris closed out the game for the Giants with a 4th quarter touchdown from the 3 yard line which made it 25-0. Fairfield travels to Milford for their next game on September 6th.

MITEY MITE SR (1-0) FAIRFIELD 19 AMITY 0
The mighty might seniors won game 1 of the season turning in an impressiveperformance on both sides of the ball. For Fairfield the first score came ondefense when a forced fumble was returned 42 yards for a touchdown by LukeHerring. Shortly after on offense Chris Bellantoni receives a hand off from TateMahoney and runs 65 yards for a touchdown. On the very next drive ChrisBellantoni runs a QB keeper play 50 yards for a touchdown to make a final scoreof 19-0. The entire team played outstanding and stayed extremely focused. Mightymite seniors take to the road next weekend against Hartford.

MITEY MITE JR (1-0) FAIRFIELD 24 AMITY 0
Quarterback Jonathan Morris ran for four touchdowns as Fairfield MMjr cruised past Amity 24-0 in both teams’ season opener on Saturday August 29th.Morris had has best run of the day when a bad snap turned a 4th and 15 from Amity’s 40 into a 4th and 25. Morris grabbed the loose ball and scrambled 65 yards through Amity defenders for his final score of the day. The Giants led by Charlie Mahoney, Creed Rollins, Tyler Cirelli and Ryan Menozzi only yielded three first downs to Amity. Fairfield forced two turnovers against Amity. Lawson Leibrock forced a fumble that was recovered by Justin Toothaker, and Brooks Reynolds recovered the ball for Fairfield the second time.Fairfield travels to Newington for their next game on September 5th.
