Fairfield Giants Cruise Through Week 2

JR MIDGETS (1-1 FAIRFIELD 14 NEWINGTON 12

The Giants Jr Midgets evened their season record with a hard fought victory over a very good Newington Nights team. TE Charlie Wilcox and QB Andrew Loya led Fairfield to their first victory of the young 2015 season. In Q2, Loya hit Wilcox on 60 Yard TD strike knotting the score at 6-6 2 mins into the Quarter. On the very next possession, on a LONG 4th + 7 play, Loya once again hit Wilcox with a 50 yard strike on a crossing pattern. Wilcox made a spectacular leaping catch over a Newington defender, racing 40 yards down the sideline and in for his 2nd TD of the day. Declan O’Hara hit the 2pt PAT making the score 14- 6 at the half. The Knights would score in Q3, bringing the score to 14-12, but the Giants strong defense held Newington at bay in Q4..Final score Fairfield 14 Newington 12.

PEE WEE (2-0) FAIRFIELD 28 NEWINGTON 0

The Fairfield Giants Pee Wee Team improved to 2-0 with a commanding 28-0 victory over the Knights of Newington. The game was hyped as the ‘Rematch” of last years 2014 SCPW Championship when the Giants shut out the Knights 20-0. Newington took the opening kick-off and went 4 and out against the stingy Giants defense. Taking possession on there own 40 yard line, Fairfield came out swinging, scoring on the second play from scrimmage, as QB Nick Morris took a sweep outside and made an amazing cut-back 50 yards and in the score. Tyler Hibberd kicked the 2pt conversion making the score 8-0. On the very next possession, DE Jack Gremes had a furious blind-side sack of the Knights QB, causing a fumble, recovered by Fairfield. The Giants drove 45 yards down the 5 yr line, where RB Mike Innaimo punched in a TD off tackle (PAT blocked) 14-0 FFLD. At the start of Q2, OLB Innaimo had a Pick 6, 55 yard interception return for a TD making the score 20-0. Capping of the scoring explosion was Ben Gaffney, pounding an off tackle run in for the final TD of the day, Hibberd PAT, score 28-0. Game standouts were, Peter Strang, Drew Buckley, Gavin Toth, Grady Gollier, Jamie Caposella, Nick Versea, and Conner Gittman.

JR PEE WEE1 (1-1) FAIRFIELD 32 NEWINGTON 6

The JPW1 Team took to Newington and struck hard and fast winning 32-6. Joey Delia scored 2 long touchdowns on the Giants first 4 offensive plays. QB Tommy Kramer ran in the extra points. The offense never slowed down with both Aiden Casey and Jordan Davis finding the end zone to end the half with a 24-0 lead. The second half began with Ronny Labrasciano returning the kick off 45 yards for a touch down and the Giants never looked back. Coach Brian Gleason was happy with his defense for never giving up pressure. Defensive standouts were Sean Donohue, Jack Melbourne, Charlie Dequeljoe, Mac Gleason, Chance de la Garrigue and Anwar Sakly. Next week Waterbury.

JR PEE WEE2 (2-0) FAIRFIELD 13 Milford 7

Milford, CT. - Fairfield Giants JrPW2 defense turned it up a notch and delivered the win at Milford.
Fairfield got on the board first when QB Rogan Kane hit WR Patten Royal for a 68 yard touchdown in the 2nd quarter. Sean O’Neill got the PAT. O’Neill on his second carry of the 3rd quarter ran 44 yards to lift the Giants 13-0. The Eagles scored quickly in the 4th making it 13-7. Momentum seemed to be on Milford’s side as the kickoff took a bounce which the Eagles recovered. Fairfield’s Matthew Mitchell caused a fumble which Joe Macri recovered. Milford got the ball again back at their 10 yard line. Fairfield’s Tyler Fox, Mikey Lau, and Harrison Spangler kept Milford from advancing.

MITEY MITE SR (1-1) FAIRFIELD 0 HARTFORD 37

The Mitey Mite Sr. team suffered a tough loss this weekend to a very good D1 team in the Hartford Hurricanes. The Giants offense seemed to have a hard time finding their rhythm stalling any momentum during the game. The Hurricane offense overpowered the Giants defense with lighting speed around the ends.


MITEY MITE JR (1-0-1) FAIRFIELD 12 NEWINGTON 12

Newington, CT. – Down by 1 with under 2 min left in the game, the Giants were 2nd and goal from the 4 yard line when penalties pushed the game out of reach. After the Giants stopped the Knights on their first possession, QB Jonathan Morris led the first Giant’s drive from the 36 yard line, which ended with Morris scrambling 35 yards for the game’s first touchdown. The Knights answered in the 2nd quarter to knot the game up at 6 all. The Giants took control again in their opening drive of the 3rdquarter when RB Ryan Menozzi found a lane and dashed 70 yards for the score and make it 12-6. The Giants defense led by Max Pechman, William Bond, Conrad Burki and Ryan Thompkins stopped the Knights first possession of the third quarter.The Knights answered on their next possession and closed out the 3rdquarter 13-12. Fairfield’s Offensive line led by Gage Tyler, Matthew McManus and William Dunn opened lanes for Finbar Maloy.The Giants started at their 30 and drove down to the 4 yard line.Twice Fairfield reached the end zone only to see a flag on the field. The Giants host Waterbury September 12th.
