FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield Ice Academy, where dozens of young skaters and hockey players trained in recent years, announced that it is permanently closing on Monday.

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the ownership’s decision to permanently close Fairfield Ice Academy effective on Monday, July 24, 2023," the venue posted on its website. "We thank you for skating with us over the years and hope that you have many fond memories of your time at the rink."

No word was given as to why the rink is closing, but the owners referred questions to the academy's landlord, Fischel Properties.

"We truly appreciated being able to share our love of skating and hockey with you and wish you all the best in your future skating and hockey journeys."

On its Facebook page, the owners of Bridgeport's Wonderland of Ice said it is saddened by the closure, and reached out to the academy's community in an effort to help fill the void.

"The coaches and staff there did a great job of educating young skaters and hockey players, while instilling a love for our sports," wrote Wonderland's owners.
