Fairfield Mens Basketball Travels to Take ON MAAC Rival Quinnipiac

With the hope of using a convincing 80-70 win over Manhattan on “Super Sunday” as a springboard in its final six games of the regular season, the ‎Fairfield University men’s basketball team (13-11, 7-7 MAAC) hits the road to nearby Hamden, Connecticut to face interstate rival Quinnipiac University (8-15, 5-9 MAAC) on Saturday (February 13).

SNY will televise the matinee affair with tip off at 2:00 PM from the TD Bank Sports Center. WVOF Radio (88.5 FM) will simulcast with play-by-play “Voice of the Stags” Bob Heussler and expert analyst Joe DeSantis in their customary courtside seats to call the action. ESPN3 will also broadcast.

The Stags win over the Jaspers was their 13th of the campaign which is six more than all of last season for a rejuvenated program under head coach Sydney Johnson.

Fairfield’s “Fab 4” freshmen stole the show in the Manhattan triumph with Curtis Cobb leading the way with 20 points, and fellow rookie Matija Milin contributing 19 points and nine rebounds. The rookies combined for 59 of the team’s 80 points. Jerry Johnson, Jr. chipped in with 11 points, and Jonathan Kasibabu had 9 points and his 10 rebounds paced the Stags on the boards. Leading scorers Marcus Gilbert (17.6 ppg) and Tyler Nelson (15.8 ppg) were quieted by the Jaspers as the rookies took center stage.

It was the sixth time this season that Cobb had Fairfield’s game scoring high – the last four were wins - including his career best 25 in the January 29 win over Canisius. CC3 is Fairfield’s third leading scorer with 10 ppg.

The Stags will be seeking revenge against Quinnipiac as the Bobcats snatched a 64-59 win at Webster Bank Arena on February 1. Giovanni McLean fueled the win with a career high 25-points. The Bobcats lost to Manhattan, 84-77, on Thursday night in Riverdale.

Fairfield has a travel-heavy schedule the rest of the way with four out of the last six contests on enemy turf.
