Fairfield Movie Theater Appeals for Liquor License

Fairfield Theatres has filed an appeal in state Superior Court in an attempt to secure a liquor license.

Fairfield, CT — Fairfield Theatres is appealing the Zoning Board of Appeals denial of its application that would have allowed it to sell alcohol at the movie theater in state Superior Court, according to the Fairfield Citizen.

The Citizen reports the ZBA denied the theater’s request for a variance of a 1,500-foot zoning regulation by a 3-2 vote in May.

The movie theater was seeking the variance so that it could apply for a café permit in order to secure a liquor permit from the state, according to the Citizen.

However, the Little Goose Café is 1,319.9 feet away and town regulations don’t allow more than one establishment with a café permit within 1,500-feet of each other. Fairfield Theatres is arguing that the walking and driving distances is more than 1,500 feet and the businesses are “vastly different,” according to the Citizen.
