Fairfield To Participate In International Make Music Day

FAIRFIELD, CT — On Thursday, June 21, Fairfield will participate for the first time in the annual Make Music Day, according to officials. Make Music Day began 36 years ago in France and is an opportunity for musicians of any skill level to make free music for their friends and neighbors. This year marks the first year Connecticut is participating with more than 250 musical events statewide.

The celebration in Fairfield will feature musicians of all different genres in many locations around town—from Saugatuck Sweets to the Pequot Library. As part of the mission to make music accessible to all, Make Music Day is completely free for all attendees.

The festivities will begin in Fairfield at the Public Library at 11 a.m. with a performance by singer/songwriter Melissa Wasserman. Beginning at 4 p.m., the Fairfield Theatre Company will be hosting a battle of the bands style music festival at the Warehouse and in the FTC parking lot in downtown Fairfield.

Make Music Day is being presented locally by the Fairfield Theatre Company in conjunction with the Town of Fairfield’s Department of Community and Economic Development.

Make Music Day began in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, which means both ‘festival of music’ and ‘make music’. Every year it is held worldwide on June 21, the summer solstice and the longest day of the year. Since this holiday was established 36 years ago more than 800 cities in 120 countries have joined in including over 70 cities in the United States.
