Fairfield Prep Lacrosse Earns Rematch With Cheshire

Jesuits to face Rams in SCC finals after a 9-2 semifinal win over Guilford

The Fairfield Prep lacrosse team has its eagerly anticipated rematch with Cheshire.

The Jesuits rolled to a 9-2 victory over Guilford in the semifinals of the Southern Connecticut Conference playoffs on Wednesday night, setting up a championship game rematch with Cheshire on Friday.

Fairfield Prep (14) and the Rams will meet at 3 p.m.  at Branford High School in the second of three possible meetings this season. The lacrosse powers also could faceoff against each other in the state tournament.

Cheshire won the first meeting,9-8, on May 18 at Alumni Field.

Brendan Rotanz scored three goals and Griff McGoldrick and Mike Carey contributed two apice to lead the Jesuits' attack Wednesday. Harrison Cotter and Tyler Cox had the other goals for the Jesuits.

Gil Long had seven saves for Fairfield Prep, which out-shot the Indians, 37-11.

Cheshire (16-2) advanced with a 16-8 win over Hand in Wednesday's other semifinal.

The Rams' only loss to a state school this season was a 10-9 defeat at New Canaan on May 20.
